SALTY

How long will people continue to throw salt in some of these programs' games?  Does the nastiness die down during a particular month of the season.  If so....I CAN'T WAIT!  Some of these people make my head and other parts hurt! bleh

I know cheer is getting meaner and tougher every season.  I have been around this a long time and don't see it letting up.  It is sad that it has to be this way.  I thought it was just a lot of crazy cheer people and then my son did competitive baseball last year and the people were really mean and rude too.  But at least in baseball they get time off from being mean.  From fighting for numbers and talent to winning nationals it just keeps on going in cheer.  You can leave cheer anytime but think about the coaches that deal with this season after season and all the teams and parents.  They have to be hooked on xanax or something to calm them down.  I am thinking of putting my daughter in dance.  Are they just as mean there?

NO. Where do all these mean people come from? I sit there and watch the antics of a certain few and as they spew their venom I think to myself this is just cheer. At some point you have to rise above the negative. What really shocks me is how people get sucked in to all the bashing. I wonder if they new how ugly they look when they rip on gyms, coaches, kids parents. It just makes me think to myself boy when my daughter gets older she is so gonna owe me. when its a choice between puttin mom in the old folks home or letting me come live with them I will remind her I did allstar cheer for you!!!!!!

WARNING...comments below refer to the FEW people who are wacko in cheer.  I believe for the most part, cheer people are pretty nice.

The ones that kill me most are the parents who are supposed to be mature and setting examples...but then anybody can have a baby...no maturity tests or training are required.  The next worst ones are the coaches who post.   As a parent, I am putting my kids into their hands and hopefully they will be providing a positive role model.  WHen I see a coach post here something that shows the maturity level of a gnat, grrrrr.

The negative kids are kids who have learned at the feet of their parents and coaches.  My hope for them is that there will be some other parent (maybe their best friend's mom???) or coach that will model mature and responsible behavior and they will move past displaying their passion with their team with positiveness rather than negativity.

I think it is normal for everyone to have a pretty negative response now and again...it's just what you do with it that counts.

I agree with you 100%. I don't come on this board very often, BECAUSE, of all the negativity. O notice someone will start a new topic, or post a response to another.. and it gets COMPLETLY throw out of context, turns into a person bashing, or a gym bashing. Its almost taking the FUN away

I just want everyone to recognize that this is supposed to be about healthy competition and healthy rivalries.  It's only supposed to go far enough that it encourages gyms/teams to put their all into every competition.  For the fans, seeing several (notice I didn't say 2 because its more fun when many gyms are great) gyms compete with talent, fun, and "spirit" (I just dated myself) to the Nth degree can make those 8, 10 or 12 hours days not seem so long.  How fun would it be if all gyms cheered on all teams?  of course, see if you can cheer loudest for your own gym/team - but show some love and support and support for everyone! The energy would be incredible!  EVERY team would feel like they were on top of the world and give the performance of their life EVERY time!

...OK, so then that's my wish for this season.  Everyone makes noise for everyone for the best competition experiences of the decade! biggrin

I absolutely love it when you see a rival program up front cheering on their competition and congratulating them for their performance after the competition / win or lose.  Especially when the other team wins

I want to know where all the fun went? with all the "Negative Nicks" and the "Living Vicariously Victors" Are the kids really having fun anymore?? You know those types of parents/coaches aren't just on this board venting, I am sure they vent to their kids also. What is that doing to our kids? Cheerleading now adays isn't just about cheerleading and it makes me sad. It's about level 5, crop tops/no crop tops, cancer parents, why isn't my kid on level 5, etc.....Where is the old "pop warner" style fun??? (I don't want to go back to pop warner. But you have to admit, it was so much fun!!)

While my daughter didn't do pop warner, she did something similar.  It was NOT fun!  Not only were there still the moms questioning why their daughter wasn't in front, why Susie gets to do the shimmy, "look at Jane's mom, she always feels like she needs to bring the best snacks" (not to give moms a bad name...at least they were involved...not one dad came to practice or games in two years of my daughter doing this) AND the group was soooo unorganized!

At least in all*stars there's organization!

This was my experience, I'm sure there are plenty of well run "pop warner" groups and possibly a few all*stars that aren't.  ;)

My little participated in CYSO Cheer (I think that's what it's called) but it was before we ever even thought about all star. It was boring even then...for me that is. But she loved it. Could she ever go back to that now? Even though she's only 11? Honestly? No, that's not likely. She was 6 then with not even so much as a cartwheel. Now, she's 11 with level 4 skills. I think she'd lose her mind. LOL

All Star Cheer is still fun. As with anything else, it's what you make of it. I know some
KA-RAZY cheer moms. LOL Seriously! You wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen and heard. But I personally put distance between myself and my daughter. Of course, we get along with everyone and have lots of laughs together. But when the drama starts it's time for me and my younguns to go. We stay sane that way.

Correction:

I don't put distance between myself and my daughter...
My daughter and I put distance between US and the problem.

Sorry about that!

I don't love it. I love when teams are good sports and can congratulate a rival when they are beat, and be polite and friendly...however, having them "up front cheering" is too fake for me. When you try to hard to be the "best sport" to make yourself/your team look good it comes off as insincere. And over the top insincere sportsmanship is almost as bad as being a bad sport.

I know that's a bit off topic and I'm not trying to pick an argument or anything...its just that over the top pretend sportsmanship really bugs me.

i completely agree. i think it is fake behavior and i can not stand it. It is sad because you know the coach tells the kids to go cheer for the rival team because those kids would no way be there cheering if they were not told too. it is really irritating.
