What do you consider to be the appropriate age to be place on a junior level 4 or 5 team?
Again! Older than your daughter if you are asking. Do you have a doubt then don't do it. Skills wise she may be ready but 8 is way too young given the average age of the junior team at your gym.
She will not be babied she will be pushed aside by her team. How will that help the team or her.

#1 How did you know the age of her child!
#2 Check the maturity of the child.
#3 An eight your old that has a double full, might have the mind to pull it off!

I hope the mom is not living thru the child and pushing her so much that she will hate the sport in a year or two. She will also have her confidence shattered because she will not be at the level of 11-14 yr olds and her team mates will not be interested in babying her, the whole cute thing gets old when the little ones cry every time they can't have their way or their attention span won't allow them to focus as long.
She needs to be amoungst her age peers and she will thrive. She has time to grow and love what she is doing. Mom be smart, coaches be firm and keep the child in mind. I bet if this mom take this kid anywhere else and if they have a youth team, that is where she will be placed. Don't let parents bully you to put kids on teams they don't need to be on. If mom finds a team that doen't have a youth team, then and only then will she have her kid on a jr team.
People need to get a grip and worry about there own child!!!! If the shoe was on the other foot I wonder what you would say hold your child back dont allow he or she to excel because of there age if they have the talent use it.
Well if you put a 7 or 8 year old o a junior 4 or 5 team, they would have to stay at that level for 5 years. There is no where for the kid to go, the senior age requirement is at 12yrs old. Let that child mature with his or her age group and do individuals, there is no harm in that. Plus, older kids don't want to be on teams with younger kids. The junior kids r getting so big these days, it will be scarey for the little ones to fit in...
What does it matter if you're a junior 5 or a senior 5? You're still a level 5 right? You're still doing the same skills!
Not really sure that I get why people run this difference into the ground either. If you child has qualifying skills then put them with their age group. They will enjoy the season with their peers so much better. We, the parents, may not see it that way but trust me, very few kids would prefer to hang out with kids who shun them than not.
What do you consider to be the appropriate age to be place on a junior level 4 or 5 team?
I don't feel that age has anything to do with skill level.
I think the answer to this depends on the age of the other team members. If it's an older junior team (made of mostly 13-14yo) than I wouldn't expect my 10yo to be on the team; however if there's mostly 10-11yo (with one or two older ones to require the team to be junior) than there's a little more leeway, but still wouldn't be expecting my 7yo to be one the team.
Now, if I have a level 4 8yo and the only options are a level 2 youth team or a level 4 junior team - I'm most likely going to say keep her/him on the youth team. My 8yo theoreticly has many more years to cheer. It's not like her/his skills are going to disappear because she/he doesn't compete them for 2.5 mins once to a few times a month, her/his skills are bound to just improve through practices, tumbling and privates.

Yeah but you don't want them to get bored also! My daughter is 9 and she's on a junior 4/5 team. The team consist of mostly 10-14 year olds. Her teammates treat her great on the team. They don't baby her either. Also my daughter mentally can handle being on that team too so that helps.

When your daughter turns 11 and acts like she's 17, don't be surprised.
Oh you have my daughter all wrong! When you teach your child how to act and right from wrong that's when you dont have anything to worry about!! I wouldn't have put my daughter on a team she wasn't physically or mentally ready for.

It says 14 and younger - but I agree 8 might be too young. It works in some cases and it's ok per the rules, can't really b**** about it
FYI- I am a mom that has had a similar question for the past couple of months and has asked for advice on the message board. I am letting my daughter try it. If she can handle it and handle a Junior team that is level 5 then more power to her. She is 8 and she is tiny. I'm not going to stop her from growing.
