if you have DirectTV its also showing at 5p on Friday.  I hope they talk about All Star Cheer.  Often these shows generalize their titles and you end up with 2 minutes "mention" about all star and the rest is about high school and college cheer.  They still focus on the injuries and worse.  The closest anyone came to getting it right was the series about the high school in the south (i can't remember the name of the show).  They were supposed to feature another school after that one ended but it never did, or at least I never saw.

I'd like to see something done on All Star Cheer specifically.  if done right, they'd need a 2 hour THS. It would have to cover

* The history of the nation's underworld of all star cheer (sounds wrong huh? LOL)

* differences between large gyms and small gyms

* COSTS! which would mean surveying families to find out how the avg person can afford to pay for something so expensive.

* The physical demand involved

* The avg age that kids start (5-7) and the number of years of committment that kids and families WILLINGLY make

* This is redundant...but the ADDICTION involved

* How these gyms got started - demographic studies, etc. to show that this a true business!

* Where the oldest/largest concentration of all star gyms are located

* The competition circuit and how gyms chose which they'll follow

* WORLDS!!!....the process and the true INTERnational involvement (awesome when you really think about where this is going)

* The added costs of WORLDS

* Defining SPORTS and comparing the demands of all star cheer

* The politics involved!  Mergers - gyms, competition companies (s*x, lies and videotapes... hahaha j/k)

As much as I've added, I know you guys would love to see more.  Please add what you'd love to see that I didn't think of.

Well I can bet since this is a expose by the "E" channel it will not be flattering.  Comon people this is the same program that gave us an hour of the truth behind Brittany Spears, and child stars gone bad.  I'm sure the story out recently about the High School Cheerleaders ambushing and beating up there friend, and if I'm not mistaken didn't some High School Cheerleaders make news recently due to bad behavior when they were drunk.  Oh and you can bet that there will be the added buxum pro cheerleaders thrown in the mix.  I would love to see a program about All Stars that showed how dedicated and how hard they work.  I just know this is not going to be it.

Just saw the preview for it and it already looks like it's going to be pretty negative. I really hope they show all the great things about cheerleading and not focus on the freak accidents and injuries...
 :(
Guess we'll see how it goes!

After watching 45 min of this program, I feel more comfortable with not letting my daughter cheer anymore, forget all the DRAMA

Agree.... I am watching now. The section about how the uniforms have changed really strikes a nerve. My youth aged daughter has no business wearing a crop top, no matter what size she is! My gym is getting new uniforms this year, I have been promised that they "will be fully covered" but understand that they will have crops but wear leotards underneath. This is not acceptable. After 2 years, this will be a deal breaker. Just because it is the trend does not mean it is a good one.

If you don't want your daughter to wear the uniform that your gym chooses, can't you just go to another gym?

Point taken. Unfortunately, all of the gyms in the area are going that way. Also, I Love the gym!  Just disappointed in the uniform choice, and not looking foward to the husband's reaction. You see, this Cali girl chose a husband that was raised in the South and we are a little more conservative than most of the Bay Area. He is very proud of our daughter, and respects the sport, just can't get past the bare tummies! I am not opposed to the older girls in crops, but our girls are growing up so fast already, just don't want to fast foward the body image things before they hit double digits.  The choice comes down to our daughter, if she is ok with it and loves to cheer then we will have to work it out.

I thought this show started off pretty negative, only showing the downsides of the sport, but towards the end it lightened up and showed more of the passion and excitement (and love) for the sport.   I wish they would have shown and focused on more teams, maybe a couple who did so well at Worlds.  More competitions too, it seemed to be mainly Cheer Power.   It was interesting, I'm glad we watched it.

If you don't mind me asking... what gym are you from??

I feel sorry for your daughter, unless she's also happy you are leaving the gym (unless I misunderstood, didn't you say you are leaving because of crop tops, even though they have leotards underneath)?    Something so trivial should not be a deal breaker, but it sounds like it might be the best for you AND the gym to leave.   There are so many other issues to leave a gym over, this one I'll never understand.   Good luck to you.

I hope that you have talked with your daughters coach and/or the owners to let them know your concerns.  I know that as a coach I would hate to have any of the athletes leave, let alone because of the uniform.  True, the decision by whoever orders the uniforms may have been made, but if they are being covered I am not understanding why you are upset if she will be covered.  Would you mind telling me (us)?  We are changing our uniforms this year and would love to know your thoughts so that I can better understand any concerns that the parents at our gym may have.
Thanks!
