One of our coaches at our gym gave us this letter tonight. I think it can be applied to any team going to Worlds. I just wanted to share it. I thought it was really nice!
Level 5 Athletes and Parents,
Our year is quickly coming to a close and I wanted to thank you for all of your hardwork and loyalty that you and your athletes have put forth.
This season has been one of struggle and growth and I am proud of every athlete on this team. With the quest to attain a bid to Worlds, I feel that we sometimes forget what this sport is all about, teamwork. I am proud to say that I coach these girls, difficult, sometimes, but more than anything I have learned a lot about myself from them. I have learned the meaning of sacrifice and loyalty, that sometimes you dont always agree with the outcome but that doesnt change the hardwork that was put into it.
I have also learned the heart that it takes to make a difficult routine like this work. These ladies, your children, may keep a messy room, may not excel at every subject at school or call when they get to a friends house, but I would trust any of them with the safety and well being of any of these girls.
I cant wait for them to get to Worlds and see what they have worked towards blindly all season. For that weekend they will stand in front of their peers as one of the best in the World! How great is that? They will walk on that mat for the last time as a team, knowing that all the injuries, changes of routines and missed extra curricular activities have paid off. They will represent Northern Cali in front of thousands of people. They will rub shoulder to shoulder with teams that they have only watched on TV. My hope for them is that will relish in the idea of this weekend. That 10 years from now they will remember the second that music started. They will remember the feeling of knowing that have put more into this then physically and mentally possible. They will shine and I will love every second watching them. Lets celebrate these last couple of days and hours together. Lets thank each other for being a team for these last few moments. Moments become memories that last forever. Lets make this last.
OUTSTANDING, Very well written. I hope my daughter may one day experience what was so eloquently stated. Kudos to all those who have struggled and sacrificed to reach that goal. So enjoy, you have all earned it!!
