Please do not complain about how much cheer costs. We all know that it is expensive. At the beginning of the year every gym gives you a breakdown of all the costs involved and just about every gym is within a few hundred dollars of each other. You need to decide if it is worth it to your family. Not complain on a message board because it is not going to get any cheaper. As far as it is an investment in your childs future. Forget that, very few colleges offer cheerleading scholarships and with all of the allstar gyms now the competition for those scholarships is fierce. Let all of the drama go, your children will be happier. Do this sport for the love of the sport and the enjoyment your family gets from it. You will all be happier in the long run. Remember even though it's a competitive sport it is supposed to be fun not life or death. I hope the 2008-2009 season is the best yet for everyone. Goodluck and have fun.
thanks for telling me not to complain about the price of cheer. Does that go for the price of gas how about groceries can I say any thing about that. What about the war can I please complain about that or that my aging parents can not afford there meds. The way things are going cheer might need to shave a little off the top or you will see fewer people next year. Wise up sunshine blower!!!

Keep your child involved in something. And if that something happens to be cheer thank your lucky stars that it isn't just the chosen few who get to enjoy their sport. Use to be girls got turned down from their schools because it was just for the selected few. Now the allstar industry gives all these girls a chance. I think it is great. Besides, pay now or pay later. Stay involved with your child, come watch them cheer them on. Allstars makes them stars, priceless.

You can complain about everything in your life we just don't want to hear it anymore. Cheerleading is a luxury and complaining is not going to make the cost of the gyms doing business any less. These people have all of the same expences that you have so to ask them to charge less is a slap in the face. They need to feed there families and have a life too.

I am sooooo mad right now. Do you think these owners and coaches should work for free just so your little prince or Princess can live there dreams of being a world class cheerleader. Get a grip and remember these are real people with real lives outside of cheer. They also have to buy groceries and gas, they pay rent or a mortgage. They need to pay for prescriptions. They are just like you only they probably make less money than you do and have no health insurance. I know even the owners at my childs gym make nowhere near what I make so I would never complain about how much it costs. Think about it.
I think the problem stems from parents coming from youth cheer, where the coaches are usually parents who have stepped up to volunteer. Everything everyone does to support the program is through volunteer work, nobody gets paid. So when someone makes the move to all star cheer they aren't used to the fact that these are professionals who should be paid for their time. The way I think of it is this -- the monthly fee I pay each month is for a combination of tumbling, dancing, and acro. If anyone has gone to a private gym for even one of those you know it's costly. If you have a problem with it, go back to pop warner, or high school cheer. Most I know will never go back once they have made the move, no matter what the cost is.

I take a little offense to this statement even though I know that I probably should just let it go....To say that the complaining is coming from youth or rec league parents is stupid...Just because we come from rec leagues doesn't mean that we expect everything to be free. If we wanted the coaching, etc to be free we would stay with the rec league. I think it is just people's nature to bitch about things and if you are going to bitch about the cost, go home...JMO
If you have to bitch about the cost then don't do it. Everyone knows the cost up front and if you can't afford it, then don't allow you kids to participate. It is ok to tell your kids "sorry, we can not do it this year!!!" They won't die from missing out on a season of cheer...Disappointing...Yes!!!....but true.

I definetly agree on this. When I cheered in high school and all star we were told how much the costs were going to be and then we had payment dates. It was CLEARLY explained to us and if you can't afford then don't tryout. To me its like anything else you can't afford in life. IF yo ucan't afford to do it, or fundraise then don't participate. Can't see how thats not easy to understand.
I don't agree with the non-complaining sentiment. I don't think most of the posts where someone stated ugh cheer is so expensive are too out of hand. I know sometimes I just need to vent about something, I want to know that others feel my pain, I would like to get some ideas about what others are doing to help with the situation. This by no means mean that I think my child should cheer for free or that coaches/owners shouldn't get paid. Just like I can complain about my husband always leaving his socks in the living room without wanting to get a divorce. yeah yeah apples and oranges but still fruity.
I recently looked into the costs of starting an all star program and the prices we are charged are not a whole lot more than the expenses gym owners have to pay....I think it is easy to forget that gym owners not only have to pay their coaches....but they have bills to pay to. If you check out cheer company websites the cost to compete increases just about every year...not to mention gym owners typically pay the travel expenses for coaches and with gas prices increasing that amount is also having to increase with it. Cheer is definately an expensive sport.....but the rewards for our family have been worth it. Cheer competitions are weekends we get to spend together and with other athletes, parents, and coaches who have become like family. We are not expecting a "payoff" in the form of scholarships....but in the form of fun time together....I know some will think this sounds cheesy.....but OH WELL!!!!!
