Technique

Who would say has the best technique?  Stunting? Tumbling?

Teams that impressed me this year as far as tumbling would be the guys on Motions, and I thought Airborne had awesome stunts in thier routines.  Especially thier level 3 team.

POWER is very clean, has good choreography, is consistant with their stunts and always shows majority tumbling in all level teams...Although I think Nor Cal has a lot of strong programs POWER would have to be my pick :)

My friend is on POWER level 5, and their tumbling is so pretty! The amazing thing is, all the kids on those teams can tumble (throw at least a full), but don't get to throw them at comps, 'cause they are not up to par! Other programs would show them, pretty or not!  And their stunting.....so beautiful!

I didnt think "technique" was a word that exisisted in the cheerleading dictionary. Isnt cheerleading the same sport where if your legs were straightish and you landed on your feet its a layout and youre ready to start working on your full?

HAHA! I would have to agree...unfortunately judges do not score particularly tough on technique...a full is a full, regardless of bent legs and sloppy landings. Obviously teams are given deductions for touchdowns and mistakes, but nothing like the USAG gives for gymnastics...maybe we should learn a few things from our friends in the gymnastics industry and focus more on proper TECHNIQUE rather than pushing for the next level skill which only increases the risks for injuries. JMO =)

actually if you go to a competition that uses a scoring grid then you get the points of a lower skill if the execution isnt good... tucked full = layout

I agree with this one as well. I know that so many teams have stepped up the level of difficulty across the board.  Sometimes its a little scarey because as a mom I really don't want to see these kids trying things that they may not be ready to do just because other teams have placed gym owners in a position to come up with something to put them ahead in the game.

Maybe its time for technique to be introduced as a category to be judged by.  Or maybe its already included but perhaps its time to increase the weight of that category.  This would certainly separate good from bad and give gym owners something positive AND greater to strive for.  Could you imagine how teams would look in a season or two?  The tumbling would be incredible!

Are teams judged on motions?  I would much rather watch a beautifully put together and almost perfectly executed Level 4 routine that a thrown together Level 5 routine.

Would do you guys think?
