tryouts

How soon after tryouts do you get the results. Our gym lets you know the next day. My cousions tells you two weeks later

i think you have kind of answered your own question. It certainly varies by gym and how many kids are trying out. Sometimes you will find out the night of, the night after, a few days to a week after and so on. Especially at big gyms, it is really difficult to get the teams together as you have so many kids to tryout.

With us it is usually an all day affair. Every coach is there and participates. Every coach has a say in the make up of every team. Sometimes it can be pretty intense...rofl! We try to let every one know that same day.

Sometimes however I think it would be good to sleep on it for at least one day. You might find out that a team you set to be one level could with a couple of switching around go another level (either up or down) and better maximize the talent you have in the gym. That happened to us last year with one of our teams.

The most dangerous thing is...and parents and kids don't understand or like  this...is that they should be placed for the skills they have mastered and not the skills they hope to get during the summer. That insures a team will not have to be dropped back a level because the team did not learn the skills necessary during the summer to compete at that level. If they can't go out that next week and compete successfully level 3, then they are level 2. They are not placed in a position that they become a weak link on any team.  I know that is a little tough but that is the gymnastics coach in me.
