Themed Music

What are your opinions on themed music?  Do judges care or even notice??  Does it make the routine more "crowd appealing"?

What are some themed routines you have seen out there that you like or dislike??

i loved AP's Youth small 3 for the 06-07 season. their theme was Wicked Little Girls and on the second day of all the two day comps they ratted their pony tails and did their make up all crazy.

Some music producers will steer you away from themes cause they think it's harder to pick good music, but I think it makes you think harder and past the Flo Ridas of the moment.  I love themes!

I LOVE Theme Music!!!

For me it brings that little extra something and makes routines that much more fun to watch.

For me, obvious and over the top themes are cute at first but get old really fast.

I prefer subtle themes that aren't necessarily noticeable to everyone but add to the overall routine.

If you are a youth cheer squad, it is cute. But, all-star cheer? C'mon.

I think themed music is fun.
(Not a big fan of matching the uniform with it though)

However, I do think that it does make the routine more enjoyable to watch.
I know this past weekend at NCA watching one of the East Elite teams (i think it was their jr's) that their theme was "freak" it just made it more fun, or at least i thought it did.

I agree, I LOVE the sutle themed music.  Ya know, the kind that when you listen to the whole routine, maybe even after the second time, I realize the connections between the songs.  It's a cool little cheer mystery.

Yeah, exactly. Like if you're on the team or from the gym you definitely know its there...but for people watching they have to watch (more like "listen") a few times to see the connections between songs.

oh I really love themed music.  It tends to link creative choreography and the music together.  Some of the best routines I can recall are from themed music and routines.biggrin

My team has a theme this year, although unless you listen you can't necessarily tell. Our theme is places. All our songs talk about or list places.
Another high school team I saw this year had a theme of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" it was all music from the Wizard of OZ and The Wiz. The theme carried into their cheer and they even had t-shirts. Pretty interesting, I don't know if I'd ever go that far but I definitely don't ever choose the most up to date, popular music. I hate hearing the same songs over and over again.
