This was posted on another thread, but I thought it was interesting enough to have it's own.

ACEDAD, if you are still on the boards can you give us update on the At-Large bids? I'm so confused trying to figure it out from the other board. It sounds like some teams determined up-front that they would only accept a full paid bid, and therefore were never in the running for an at-large bid. So, some teams received at-large bids when other teams received higher scores? So is this the "loop-hole" that will be used for the new rule of "no passing down bids"?

Not sure if I would call it a loophole or not, but it appears that some teams are saying in advance of the competition, they will not accept an at large bid. Now, even if a team was offered an at large bid, they could still decline at that time and the event producer could offer it to another team. They just can't offer it to another team, if the original team "upgrades" later by winning a paid/partial paid bid.
So, then, really at-large bids are still being passed down, but in a more limited way. There's no going back to previous competitions: Tamara's Elite Flyers just received a full paid bid, so Pixie's Twinkle Toes now gets the at-large bid that TEF earned two competitions ago. I'm I understanding this correctly now?
I wish they had just done away with passing down the at-large completely, which is what I had thought previously. I also wish competitions wouldn't hold "Worlds Divisions" and "Non-Worlds Divisions", if the winning team doesn't want the bid just decline it.
I was surprised and disappointed to read that there is a "loophole" for passing down at-large bids. But if Pixie's Twinkle Toes benefits from it you bet I wouldn't complain!
I do like the separate "Worlds" and "non Worlds" divisions. If there are enough teams, then why not?
