How does the scoring system work. It was brought up on JAMZ thread and honestly I understand a little, but not completely. Also as parents does your gym ever show you the score sheets after a competition? I'm just curious because unless the competition company posts the scores (some don't) I never see them. If someone could explain them maybe it would help some people understand when/why certain teams win and others don't. I would really like to understand it more. Thanks.
Each competition company typically has their blank score sheets listed on their websites. That is the best way to become familiar with scoring systems. They are all different, so don't expect to have any consistency from company to company.
From my experience most gyms/coaches do not share the score sheets or scores with parents. They may have a brief discussion with the team letting them know what they need to work on, what may change based on the past competition and remarks from the judges. But again, they don't usually show them the actual score sheets.

Would you rest better at night if you had a chance to read the scores? Even if you did get a chance to see your team scores you would not be able to see what all the other gyms had. Every comp is different, some like dance more then stunts or some like jumps more then dance. If you can not tell why your team did not win then you should take the blinders off.

Your very rude. It's just a question and I thought that was still allowed on this board. Thank you Worlds Watcher for your response. I just want to understand how this works better then I do. I did check out the JAMZ web page and it does explain it pretty well. One thing I didn't know about and thought was kind of interesting was the WOW factor. They can award (2) extra credit points to a team that meets the Wow factor.
DOES YOUR TEAM HAVE THE WOW! FACTOR?
JAMZ is excited about the new element to its innovative judging system called the WOW! FACTOR. Since we all know that some routines just plain knock our socks off, weve given each JAMZ Panel Judge two (2) extra credit points to award to teams that meet the WOW! FACTOR criteria. For cheer routines, one (1) point will be available for Panel Judges to give for any technical skill(s) that were unique, creative, impressive, and executed in a way that makes the judge wonder where they got their skillz. The other one (1) pointwill be available for Panel Judges to give for the overall effect of the routine, meaning, the music, choreography, uniformity, synchronization, flow, confidence, crowd involvement and/or energy were so good they sent chills down the spine of the judge! The amazing energy, impressive showmanship and confidence exuded through the execution of the routine deserves recognition. JAMZ wants to get the real reason we get on the floor to perform, coach, direct, judge or even watch a routine. No sport can replicate the spirit of a cheer routine, and were here to celebrate it!
i absolutely love the idea of a point dedicated to the WOW factor. i give 10 extra wows to TOP GUN coed at worlds, now that was wow...the bowling dance...ughh...how can u even begin to compete?
I posted this somewhere else but I'll post it here too. Why isn't scoring announced and posted somewhere (website) at ALL competitions?? Scoring is how we determine who won. Can you imagine in any other sport someone telling you Team X won, but no score?? And for teams who have no competition it tells everyone else how they would have done against teams in the same level/similar division. What is the harm in sharing the scores, and why do you think all competitions don't do it?
our coaches sit the team down at their very next practice and review the score sheets with them - it seems to work out great & the kids understand their weakness' and their strong points
WW's got it right. The competitions look for different things, some like rate difficulty higher, some techique, the best way to know what it is they like best is to look at their scoresheets. When my daughter first started in cheer, I used to look them up before a competition. I really like learning as much as I could about the sport my daughter is interested in.
I don't know of a gym that shares the scores &/or comments with the parents, typically the coaches let the cheerleaders know. The only way I've ever known the scores is if the competition announced/posted them. I wish all competitions would announce/post the scores, I have no idea why they don't. It adds to the excitement, like at JamFest when one division had first and second separated by .003, when they announced that everyone was on the edge of their seat.
