SUPPORT AND PRESENCE

WOW, did you see the presence "POWER" had at the America's Best Competition. We easliy have WAY more parents and supporters than that. I think the way they all cheered on the girls (flags waving and spinning), and the great music they had really helped with their score. To be honest I think our teams would have dominated if "WE" showed that type of support.

It would be great if we had solid black flags with Cheergyms.com on one side and our team name on the other side. That way when our team is on we could show our team name, and when the other teams are on we show the cheergyms.com side....regardless of who was competing there would be a MASSIVE BLACK PRESENCE!

So my question, how can we get all of our parents together to make our next competition HUGE?

I could not agree more. You could not help but notice how much spirit they had. How awesome would it be for our girls who work so hard to know that they have so many people rooting them on. They deserve and have earned as much. Wht do you all say? A supportive mom

I think having something to wave around is great. But we need EVERYONE to participate. How many of you bought the Cheergyms flags and were waving them around? I know I had mine and I felt like I was the only one in the whole convention center with my lonely little flag. And I didn't just wave it when my team was on the floor. I was supporting each Cheergyms team as they went out and when the awards were given. We can't show our presence if everyone isn't willing to join in. And did you notice sitting in the same section is also critical. I think the parents need to join together at these competitions and make it easy to know where the Cheergyms.com section is. I personally have a hard time just finding a few parents from our own gym, let alone from all of them. Let's all join together as a true family, show our colors and welcome each other to sit close and cheer each team on!

to be honest, as a cheerleader, i thought the "presence" power had was annoying! there are many ways to show support at competitions besides waving towels . For one, just being there is great! what girl or boy doesn't want to show their attending parent how great they are on the floor! second, yelling and cheering on teams brings us sooo much energy!! Its what we feeeed off of!! I do agree we could do some more team spirit type things, but not turn into something most cheerleaders i have talked to get very annoyed with after seeing then at every competition, like the power cheer towels. I hope we can find a friendly way to cheer on our teams, that will only help our teams, and not bother other teams at competitions.

I agree 100%. There is also a part in EVERY SINGLE cheergyms.com routine where EVERYONE is supposed to yell CHEERGYMS.COM.

Come 'On Parents & All Stars (buy more then one flag, parents, so your child can have one too, could you imagine the place if ALL the parents, all stars, and coaches had a flag) ... we need to see the BLACK CLOUD!!!!!!!!!!! ((oh yeah, I LOVE the Black Flag IDEA by "cheergyms all star" ....... I think BLACK will be much more effective then anything else.))

HOW DO WE MAKE THIS HAPPEN ........... JEANINE???

Cheers,

Are you sure it isn't annoying because it isn't for you? (0=

I just think we should be honest here- I sometimes feel irritated too, but when I examine why I feel that way, I think it might just be a bit of sour grapes on my part.

Yes, let's find our OWN way of supporting our teams. The flags/towels have been done before. Just our loud, enthusiastic presence can make a huge difference to the teams. I'd like to see us find a way to sit in one BIG block of passionate supporters cheering for ALL the cheergyms.com teams. It's classy, positive, friendly and sportsmanlike - and doesn't make our support into another competition. We're there for the teams, not to win the "best, loudest, cleverest (or whatever other adjective you can think of) parent group award.

I think everyone's got some great points here. I think that the friends and family do show some great support at competitions (who can mistake the loud barks for anyone else but Cynthia Houston) but as someone said, coming together all as one will make for a stronger presence. If I were in the crowd, and I was surrounded by people I didn't know, I don't think I would be as loud. However, if I was surrounded by people I do know, and there were people such as Cynthia Houston (and I know there are others in the cheergyms.com family) who are really loud and have an incredible presence, I don't think I would hesitate to get louder.

It's probably going to take someone out there who is very social and a strong presence to get all of the cheergyms.com parents to sit together (and of course a big venue to fit them all together) and get a great crowd for all of the teams. So the question is, who is going to do it? Is there are parent (or set of parents) willing to take on a task of this magnitude? We all know that a crowd can influence the judges, and it certainly can influence the kids. Whether it's waving flags, honking air horns, or just plain barking, the kids absolutely love the attention.

And by the way, what the Power parents do is absolutely incredible. They get so jazzed for the Power routines, it's great to see the support they give. I wonder what their secret is?

What a GREAT idea Nelson, to have a few parents from each gym there at the Venue to help direct all Cheergym.com parents to the same section and to get everyone to rally together. I LOVE the black shirts and I think all parents, friends, & family should have one, or if not...to at least wear a black T-shirt.

My daughter came home from cheer camp with a bunch of cute cheers....I - Lu -sions...Illusions or The M is back again Moooootions.

If all of the parents were sitting together and we all chanted that teams cheer WOW.......Cheergyms would be IN THE HOUSE!

I LOVE the support that Power gives its teams. I asked my daughter how she would feel if she had a group like that cheering her on, and she beamed at me "I would feel like I was on the greatest team." It's amazing how differently I look at their routines because all their parents are yelling about every stunt, even a cradle. I'm sure that has to reflect on the judges too.

What I do not like is when a few gyms (no, not Power or cheergyms) chant right before a different team performs.

I know exactly how Veteran Cheergyms.com mom felt waving around my lonely white flag. Although with Motions on one side, I did only wave it during Motions teams. Next competition, I'll be waving it during each cheergyms routine.

As for the "cheergyms.com" chant during each gyms routine, no one knows when the chant is coming so that we can say it.

I also love the idea of the individual gyms chant. However, once again, when I do yell it (and do the hand motion for Illusions - my favorite!) I always get the half-smile "well, isn't that cute" look - and that's coming FROM other cheergyms.com supporters!

I am split on whether I feel the "let's all crowd together" or the "divide and conquer" :) technique is more supportive. My daughter also wasn't any help on this. If we all sit together, we would definitely be huge and loud. If we have people spread out all over the place, the sound isn't as loud, but it's EVERYWHERE.

I do think that its great to support all teams, but come on! The judges should be judging the performance and hard work of the performers... not who brought the most "cheerleaders"!

They arent judging on the parents cheering!!! it makes a heck of a difference when there are parents cheering out there...it gets everyone pumped up and wanting to preform even more!!!

It helps so much to have an energetic crowd, when the crowd gets involved (cheering, rooting, screaming as LOUD as they can) you get a rush of adreneline that is like no other feeling. Most cheerleaders dont know what Im talking about because they go out on the floor and see the crowd sitting and scrutinizing their every move, people walking around, talking to their neighbors, or flashing camera lights in their eyes. Those of you that do know what Im talking about, all you can think is "WOW....the crowd is out of control, screaming our name, rooting us on..." and it gets you so pumped up, and brings a lot of energy to the floor. And it makes your performance that much more fun for you to perform and the crowd to watch. With the few judging experiences I have had, when the crowd is going wild, and the cheerleaders are excited, performing the best they can, it makes me get drawn into the routine. Judges can easily be drawn into a routine as a crowd can, if the energy and excitment around them is at a high level. I say the more support and presence there is, the better your performance is, and that helps how judges will score you. It may not be fair, but thats how things in this world goes!!!

Oh yeah.....and dont forget.....all the gyms sell spirit flags with all the gym logos and cheergyms.com on it. Also, there are clothing for sell. So I dont see why we couldnt have started some sort of "support groups" before the season started...If your that big on supprot buy a flag, get a shirt made, and GET YOUR SUPPORT ON!!!!!!!!

the problem with the "divide and conquer" is that many of us feel slightly intimidated by the sound of one loud voice (our own) in the midst of a group silent (or uninterested) fans from other teams.

If we are all together, we would be able to feel more comfortable making lots of noise - besides, it's fun to be with and get to know other parents.( Actually, that camaraderie is one of the things I miss from the days of going to gymnastics competitions with my daughter.)

Let's put those Cheer Dads to work getting us organized and ready to support our teams 100%!

I think together is always better. Walking into the convention center you are looking for a place to sit and a bit overwhelmed. It would be fun to all sit together and root on everyone's kids together. When the girls hear you yelling and screaming out there you can see their faces light up and that does make a difference in their performance. You can cheer for your team without being annoying to others. We are there for our kids we may as well have our presence felt too!!

OK, so I looked at the San Jose State website

http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/229590

and they have a seating chart. I think someone should decide where we are going to sit. Before competition, hand out a seating map to everyone so we all know the general area where everyone will be. Have a few of the cheer dads from each gym get there early, put down a few black flags, shirts, noise makers, whatever so we all know where to sit.

AND WEAR YOUR TEAM SHIRTS!!!! Then at competition ALL of the girls and guys and cheergyms.com will know we are there for THEM!

I do think its important for all of us to be together and cheered for, but if we all sit in one clumped spot, when the coach needs to talk to us..they are going to have to use a loud speaker or something, because the cheerleaders will be scattered throughout our seating area.
