Ok.. I want to know if I am the only parent that feels this way. I have a daughter that is on 3 teams. She is good at what she does and the program loves having her on all the teams. But why should we pay so much to have them on more then one team. We have a competition coming up and the crossover fee is $75.00. I am in no way bashing our program, but I want to know when enough is enough. My question is this, why should we pay so much to have our children do more then one team?
It depends on the organization..... I paid a $75 fee for a crossover too (it is a 2 day comp). But for another comp, I paid only $35 for the crossover fee (1 day comp). You can always go to the site and look under their registration- that i usually post the costs here. So, no, our gym is not making any extra money here. I think fees have just gone up in general.
I think if your coaches ask your athlete to crossover to help another team out, then the coaches/organization should pay for it. I know not everyone will agree, however it is just my opinion. If they want your athlete to crossover and make another team stronger in tumbling, basing, whatever it may be, then why not let them foot the bill. Cheer is already expensive enough. Now crossovers? I personally do not like the idea. Why have 2 teams with the same kids on them? What? Because you have 5 to 8 others that do not crossover? That's fair? Maybe to the money makers, but not to the kids who work hard and are in that 2nd division. Just think about it. I think you will kind of understand where i'm coming from. It's different if someone is hurt or quits, but for a whole season, come on people!! What about school, homework, family time? I know how much we are at the gym. Between tumbling classes, privates, flight school, and team practice - I can't imagine being there anymore than I already am. I know most of these athletes live for this, but enough is enough. Please do not rip me apart. This is simply my opinion.
Having a child cross over is expensive. It generally doubles your comp fees - some comps have slightly lower "crossover" fees but most have stopped doing it because teams were fudging the numbers and saying they had more crossovers than they really did to save money. So take your comp fee and multiply by however many teams they are on, and there you have it.
My daughter is double teaming this year. The only extra costs is the extra comp fees. Would I let her do it again. No. It's to much. She is exhausted and it's starting to really wear her down. Her excitement for cheer is even waning. I also think the risk of injury is higher and that scares me.
