I like the straight high pony with the hair neatly pulled back.  I think it looks the best.  Plus it looks more comfortable for the girls.  I hate cheer curls not because I think they look bad, but they are such a pain.  Especially when you have to travel and curling hair when there is a two day comp is a bear.  Plus the constant complaints of I can't sleep with curlers, and it's to tight.  I would like for the coaches who decide to make the girls wear cheer curls to wear thier hair in curls also. I think you might see them changing to straight pony tails real quick.   Also I look at competition cheer as more of a sport and the straight high pony tail looks more atheletic.  Now don't get me started on the eye glitter thats a different topic all together.

I am that coach that make the girls do cheer curls and I have slept in them and I don't mind it at all. Cheer curls are traditional and fun, straight ponytails are boring. Besides I know the big argument is straight hair is easier but not if you have long naturally curly or even wavey hair like I do. I think straightening takes longer than curling. Plus if you dont have a really good straightener you are the girl on the team with the frizzy hair! Ahhhhh!

Well this may sound rude to alot of people, but Northern California cheer teams have yet to set trends in anything as far as apperance. Just looking "clean" doesn't cut it. Once these teams go to nationals, cheersport, NCA or Jamfest, then they get a reality check. Especially Worlds! Rather look like a Shooting Star, not a no star. LOL

I like the plain, straight, slick, high pony, but that's all I've really tried. My sisters had to do the curlers, and the worst part of that was having to listen to them complain and complain. It is much easier now, but then again we all have naturally straight hair. People with curly hair will probably like curly styles, people with straight hair will probably like straight styles.

As far as half up goes, with long hair that would be so difficult! There are some girls that have hair down to their butt (or longer!), could you imagine doing a shoulder sit with that? *ouch*

Our gym does the half up half down, which I LOVE for my daughter, who has shorter hair.  But for the girls with long hair, I think it looks a little messy. I do really like how feminine it is though.

Love the half up half down either straight or curly. Also high pony with a lot of body and a flip at the end.

I like split on the side to a pony
But I did like a high pony with a poofy tail.
I believe 720 used to do it and another team in Sac ... (can't remember the name, gym closed i believe 2 years ago..they had flames??) Anywho, loved their hair too.
