Hmmm....I have a question for all of you. I recently discovered a boy on a youth 3 team and he is also on a sr coed 5 team...youth is 6th grade and under, yet you have to be 12 to be on a Sr team. Is this possible?
Please correct me is I am wrong...Youth teams-11 and under....Senior teams cut off age this year is 10 as of May 31. He can do both.....SOME gyms may have their own age rule. Some Comp Co. do not let you do that!
I think regular senior divisions are ages 10-18 only, but senior open divisions are open for anyone under 18 (no minimum age). The Senior Open divisions are new this year.

This is my understanding as well. So a youth team member who turned 10 by 5/31/07 could also compete on a senior team this year. If that youth team member did NOT turn 10 by 5/31/07 and was also competing on a senior team, then that team should be in the OPEN division. Of course different competitions may have different rules.

so does that mean ucf gym will have to go sr open since they have a 9yrd old and 8 yr old on their sr 4 team they competed reg sr at power
I think the only reason that happened was because Power was a small local comp. All other companies will have to offer the senior open division, even if there is only one team in it.
My questions is....do you have to have someone under age 10 to make a team an open team? I mean, since the age division is 18 & under, couldn't a Senior 4 team just decide to go Open?
Good question! And if any team can be Senior Open, why even have a difference between the two? Just have one category called Senior Open instead of Senior and Senior Open. We already have enough divisions as it is, and wouldn't gyms like the two we've already mentioned that have open teams want more competition, not less?? Level 3 is a competitive division, but not so competitive if you're only going against one or two teams instead of all the Senior Level 3 teams.
I think they're allowing an open senior division (but not at level 5) to "phase in" the 10 and over rule. They will probably drop it when the new lower age limit becomes more accepted.

First of all there is a reason USASF made this division. If not this division there would be a "small gym level 3" division that was open. It was made for gyms that don't have enough athletes at the specific level so they can put any age athlete on the team. That shouldn't be or have to be discussed but just understdood and personally I think its obvious why we need it as industry. If not, then gyms will continue not going to the "big comps" that the same gyms always win at. If you say the same gyms don't win, then your just looking at the results. Jamz is always won by Starstruck and Cheer Odyssey. AB & GSSA events were always won by Power. Other gyms pop in and out at other comps and win occassionaly. If they get rid of it, then teams will go to non-USASF events and believe me there are plenty to choose from. I don't even understand why this is even a topic. Divisions are made because teams are different.

So, again, based on this comment, I ask my qeustion - Does a team HAVE To have someone under the Senior age bottom (10 years old) in order to be considered Senior Open? I would think that they would have to, because otherwise they are really a Senior or Senior Co-Ed team. However, I am not sure any competition company is going to stop & take the time to check for 9-year-olds to guarantee the "open" part of open. I am not trying to cause an arguement or huge off topic discussion, not am I questioning the USASF powers that be. I happen to agree completely with their leveling. I am asking a serious question in hopes of clarification.
Since Cheer Odyssey was brought up, are they really a small gym? You're saying they don't have enough to field a Senior Level 3 team (not open)? Sorry but I find that hard to believe. Competitions offer this division to make sure they get more gyms attending, I'll be happy when/if it disappears. If you have an athlete under 10 MOST gyms have a place for them (certainly CO and CSE do). If they have to wait another year or two to use their level 3 or higher skills, so be it. There is a reason USASF has this rule and competition companies should NOT be allowed to find a way around it just to get more gyms to attend.
This rule is not just for Small gyms. Which by the way in comparision to many gyms, almost every California gym is a small gym. Do not get caught up in the norcal bubble. Truly Large gyms are Cheer Athletics ( 500 athletes) Cheer Extreme ( 700 athletes ) stingrays ( 500 plus athletes). This rule is for every one not just small gyms, which by the way I think Power and Cheer Odyssey would be considred small gyms.

What division does Cheerforce's Internation Team compete in? Isn't that open also.

International teams are comprised of 14 years and older.
