I just saw a story regarding cheerleading and it featured Nor Cal Elite with Roy talking! I wish it was more positive stuff about cheer, but it was reporting how cheerleading has a high number of doctor room visits and doesn't get enough funding. Same ole story, different station. It was great seeing a team from Cali, especially Nor Cal. Good job and looks like they are going to be good.
I saw it to! I saw two different broadcasts one with Roy and one without. I thought they did a good job sharing how cheer needs to get the attention from High Schools and Colleges to reduce injury (in the small amount of time they had) and allow them to get safer practice facilities. Although, it doesn't seem like the good side of cheer is featured enough. Go NorCal and Northern California Cheer!
Man! I missed it! I knew they were taping at NCE yesterday, but I didn't know when it would be aired.
I'm tired of hearing (maybe I'm just tired today ;) ) the same old injury statics, but they don't get into how much cheerleading has grown. I mean if the injuries have increased 72% while the participation has only grown 13%, then yes the injuries are way out of control, but if the injuries have increased 22% while the participation has increased 18% then that's not as surprising or worrisome. I don't know what the statics are because I've never seen them referred to, but it would be nice to be more informed.
Congrats to NCE for the national (I believe it wasn't local FOX) exposure!!
ALL gyms have had their share of injuries. A short while back the big news was about the rise in concussions in females playing soccer. What sport doesn't have the risk of injury? Okay, bowling maybe..
lol... bowling has injuries. You cant go to a bowling alley without seeing all of the bowlers with their wrist braces! AND if they are a big time bowler, a knee brace for all the lundging they do.
Let's be nice. Why does it seem that everything on these boards gets mean. Everyone has injuries whether the cheer community finds out about them or not. Just read the message boards for well wishes. The news clip was not about injuries at NorCal (and I know you are all talking about the irony of it) - take it easy and be happy for a local team that had a small video clip and little interview on a National news.
the boards get mean because they are anonymous. pick your posion...boards with usernames with very few posts or boards with many anonmymous posts and no accountability.
i would have commented on this subject but im choking on the irony.
I wonder if there have ever been any official statistics showing percents of injuries for each gym. The gyms you feel are the safest may surprise you. I don't know of ANY gym who has not had injuries each season, so to specify any one gym in particular is ridiculous.
None of us know any of the circumstances that goes into Nor Cal Elite's season other than Nor Cal Elite. Let's close this subject before it begins to snowball.
