My daughter has been doing all stars for 4 years now. She is a Level 5 Cheerleader. Our first year we payed $2500.00 that included her shoes, uniform, bow, warm ups, practice gear, travel bag, camp, basically everything. The following year we paid $3050 it included everything again. But since she didn't need a uniform we got a $300.00 discount for uniform so it was actaully $3350.00 if you were new We also had an additional expense because she went to Worlds so that was an additional $3000.00 Last year it was a little different, it was broken down to $2700.00 for the year since she didn't need a uniform plus $800.00 for competition fees. So it was $3500.00 for returning. We also had 2 out of state competitions so that was an additional $3000.00 not including the Worlds. This year we couldn't afford it anymore. Tuition is $2700.00 + $1300.00 in competition fees. She needed a new uniform so it was an additional $400.00 on top of that. So $4400.00 this does not include airfare to the 3 out of state competitions, thank goodness it included Quad occupancy hotel rooms for the girls. Also no camp this year. So all in all it was going to be about $10,000.00 for cheer alone this year. Did I mention that tumbling classes are not included in the price. All for a Bid to Worlds. It broke my daughters heart not to go back this year but I just couldn't do it anymore. This is just mandatory costs. This doesn't include essentials like my flying with her or my hotel or important things like food and entrances into competitions. Is this pretty normal this year for Level 5. She wants to cheer this year but I can't afford the prices. I might expect prices like this in Southern California but We live in the Northern California.
I know that all-star cheerleading is relatively new in this world but competitive gymnastic has been around for ages. And if you know anything about competitive gymnastic it is 10x more expensive then the world of cheerleading. No matter what part of the country youre living in. You go to about 4-6 out of state meets and some even are over seas. It's just apart of the business and everyone just knows gymnastic is one of the most expensive sports out there. Needless to say cheerleading is getting up in that category. People need to come to realize that this sport is not for everyone just like gymnastic its expensive!! Unfortunate but true. If you cant afford the sport you either need to find another sport, find a sponsor, or join a recreational program. In a perfect world any child could afford to play any sport but that's not how it is.
And gymnastic's monthly gym tuition (and only tuition not including other stuff) averages around $400 month, that's about $4,000 a year plus travel, leos, grips, bag, warm ups, etc.
I am sure all-star cheerleading in a few years will get up to those figures.

I don't know where you are in Nor Cal but you are definitely at the high end of the price range. There are gyms in Nor Cal that are much less than that if you call around and price them out and are willing to drive to where they are and some do also have Level 5 teams.
I know that my daughter is on Level 5 in Nor Cal and my total costs this year are $3000 for EVERYTHING (tuition, comp fees, uniform and practice clothes, and some extra's!). The only additional expense is travel. Call around if she really wants to do it and you are willing to make the commitment!
As much as I hate to say it, $10,000 isn't unusual for yearly costs, especially for a level 5 cheerleader.
Remember the point of all star cheerleading is to compete. For level 5 cheerleaders, trael is mandatory because the local competitions generally aren't going to produce much in the way of opponents.
School squads and rec squads are generally less expensive.
I don't mean to seem harsh, but I'm speaking from experience.
$10,000!!! If our gym cost anywhere near that, my kids certainly wouldn't have done allstar cheer. $3500 seems to be about average for our area, and these are very competitive gyms that do well at the national level.
I think tuition prices have stayed about the same over the years, but competitions have definetly gone up. Before when USA, NCA and UCA were dominant those competitions were not very exspensive, but other companeis came on board and charge so much for events. Seriously anything over$45.00 bucks for one day event is to much money, especially if your parents have to pay to enter, no team gift, no coaches gifts, hospitality room, or allowed to even sit in front of your team. I think next year price will definetly be a factor in picking competitions for my program next season.

Please note that I'm counting travel costs in the $10k. Our gym fees, comp fees etc. are in the $3k to $4k range as well.

i think were from the same gym.if not, we have A LOT in common!!! first place is not worth 10K!!! (ahem, power)
After 7 years of all star cheer and 2 years on high school, that money is worth every single penny to me. I've cleaned gyms, sold on ebay, worked concerts, got an extra side job, babysat and more to pay for my daughters cheer.
But as a high school sophmore, she's getting good grades, on her Varsity squad where she LOVES it. She's involved in high school, calls me when there are issues and makes good decisions, hangs out with GREAT kids, etc.
Yea, it's cost me tons of cash. But the memories are PRICELESS. We have spent the last 8 years together in hotels, planes, giant venues, tiny school gyms, hours in the car and more. I wouldn't trade the friends I've made over the years for ANYTHING!!!!! I think back to all the funny and sad times and just smile. They have made the both of us who we are today and for that, I would pay double.
Practicing in the smallest room imaginable with South Bay Elite where the kids would hit their heads on the ceiling if they did a basket.
The gymnastic gym where Motions got it's start.
Opening a new gym TWICE, both with Motions and OC.
Trips to Atlanta, Vegas, San Diego, Pamona, Florida and more.
And the many many millions more tiny memories of each practice, each trip, each kid, each family, each parent both friendly and annoying, and more.
Sorry, but that is what you are paying for. And there is no price tag that you can put on it. If you aren't experiencing these things, you are missing out. Cheerleading is worth every single penny you put in to it. Its all in your attitude. Yep, the little gym competitions suck. Instead, pack good seat cushins and take lots of pictures. "If you can't change the circumstances, change your attitude." You will thank me later.

O.C. mom you said it! Cheer has been a wonderful to me and my girls. We would'nt change a thing. I some times think that if I just put all the $ I spend on cheer into a college fund I could send them all to Stanford. But instead I'll keep the memories and the kids will have to settlle for State college. :)
You're sending them to a college that's even better, my love. You are sending them to The College of a Happy Life.
And for that, you get an A+
(and to all of my friends near and far, I MISS YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH. I LOVE YOU!!!!)

I was just checking out the Royals website. $1750/year, including tuition, fees, uniforms and competions. All I can say is Bless them for trying to make cheer affordable to everyone. My question is, do the Royals travel out of state at all? Or venture down to SoCal? I'm just blown away by those prices... just as I was blown away by the folks that pay $10,000.
You get what you pay for definitely. Looked at the royal elite contract as well. contract states that you have to participate on another team and then pay an additional $600 to be on the "elite" team.
You always get what you pay for. =) except for the Yankees....
That's not necessarily so, or at least not the way you are trying to imply. My sister-in-law just paid $85 for a t-shirt that nearly fell apart after she washed it, while my $8 t-shirt has lasted for many years. Just because something is less expensive than the norm doesn't mean it's bad nor does it mean something is good just because it costs more than average. Every gym works for someone, you just have to find your gym.
I believe they are a non-profit. They also require each parent to volunteer at least 10 hours to the gym in order to keep costs down. They do go to nationals once a year in southern Cali. All I can say is they must have really cheap rent to have those kind of prices. Because staff and basic overhead costs can be very costly.
