Staffing/coaches needed

I am wondering if anyone has the same problem I do.  we have six teams at out our gym and only five coaches.  I know a good amount of the cheerleaders at my gym feel this way too.  I think our coaches are stretched too thin.  I look at other gyms and they have so many more coaches and they seem like they do better.  WAY BETTER
I dont get it!  Why do we have to take the heat for the lack of coaches!  WE NEED MORE COACHES.  Does anyone else have a problem with the small amount coaches with a large amount of teams?  weirdface

How many coaches do you have for each team and how big is each team. I thikn a 8 : 1 ratio is really good.  Meaning that if you have only 2 coaches on a team of 36 I can understand your concern.  I will say that in our area it is hard to find qualified coaches.  I would rather have two great coaches on the floor than 4 coaches that are just bodies to fill the space.  Any thoughts?

My gym has 6 teams this year and 3 coaches if you don't count the owner. She helps sometimes but she's more of the owner than a coach. Last year we had 5 teams and 4 coaches confused. This year we have 2 coaches per team and I think every coach coaches 3 teams. Well we're a small gym and I never really noticed a problem with not having many coaches. We usually only have one team practicing at a time. Oh and we have a few girls from the advanced team who coach tumbling sometimes.

Oops I can't edit my post! I just wanted to add that my team has 36 people and we have 2 coaches and they think we are a handful! biggrin So the owner helps coach us alot. Having 2 coaches for the small teams (20 people) is good though.

Lately on this board there have been alot of comments about the owners helping coach or not coaching at all.  I am really confused about this as I own a gym and Have a hand in each team.  I know that the owners of Nor Cal, Power, Airborne and Cheergyms  have an active coaching role.  What other owners coach fulltime too?

northern california.  yeah we have two coaches to a team with large teams.  They are great coaches but it seems as though we would benefit from it if we had more coaches

This is how OC handles this.....

The kids on Sr teams are fully capable of assistant coaching the younger kids. This gives your head coaches more time for everything else. The assistant coaches do warm ups, watch from the sides, spot, and more!!! Your head coaches don't have to shoulder every single aspect!

And in return, they earn service credits for high school, are awarded goodies from the parents during the holidays and at the banquet and maybe even a free private or two!!!

It works out so wonderful that OC has to turn kids away sometimes cause the demand is so great! Emily did it for 3 teams one year and LOVED it!!!!
