Whats the difference if you hire outside or do your own? Just wondering if there's anything wrong with it?? Cheer Odyssey has always done their own, but if they had to hire outside I don't think I would be upset.

The main differance is money Choreographers can cost a hefty amount of money. On average most big name choreographers cost you $5,000.00 +. That reflects in your tuition costs. It is an added Cheoreography fee in addition to Regular tuition, Uniform, Comp fees ect.

Oh ok I see!! That makes sense now!! Thank you

We have someone from the outside come in and our fees are still the same as other gyms; I guess they cut costs elsewhere. I love their routines, it works out very well for us.
If you have someone come and do the routine its usually well worth the money and usually less stress for the coaches. We do both, depending on the year, and yes it cost money, but just cut something else out. You make choices, in what you want to spend money out. Again if you want both, just list it out and let parents know so they can choose to participate or not.
although many gyms hire outside of their own gyms for top of the line innovative choreography, I as a coach and choreographer truly respect and admire those who are fortunate enough to have their own in house talent. I feel it really brings something emotional to the routines we as coaches spend so many hours working on, and demonstrates a level of skill and talent that has as of late defined many of the best gyms.
I always LOOOOOOVE cheergyms choreography because its fresh, fun, and creative. I can still remember being a cheerleader myself watching their college team practice a few years back; Pour some sugar on me to this day is still one of the best dances I have ever seen with copa cabana coming in a close second. I never met Jason (one of many choreographers for cheergyms), but definitely consider him one of the best choreographers in nor cal, maybe in california even from my perspective because he always delivers something new.
Roy from Nor Cal also always delivers a fresh twist on west coast choreography; its fast paced, dynamic, and almost always current, adding to the fun of watching their jaw dropping routines.
I can't wait to see what everyone has come up with this year, I know my gym really has tried to push the bar of our routines and dances to max out the talents of our atheletes and I can only hope our hard work will be well welcomed.
3 years and I'm still trying to come up with something new, SO SELL IT LADIES AND GENTS, and good luck in the upcoming competitive season!
we love our routines and our choreographer. it's worth the money. our gym does pay a lot to have our choreographer and help come out for five days but our gym's prices are lower than most gyms or even the same as some of the gyms that choreogrpahy their own routines. but our gym does so much extra stuff for other local teams that i think it's our coaches that pay for our choreography. our coaches work everyday on cheerleading. late in the evening and every weekend. i think if our coaches didn't do all the extra stuff then our prices would be more expensive? I do really appreciate my coaches and their hard work.

I sooo agree with everything you said! Plus, lets just say you win @ Nationals and it was YOUR OWN routine.....wouldnt that feel even better for the coaches? I also believe cheergyms has the BEST choreography...in the WORLD! And its so cool too cause there from CALI!!
Last year our gym hired a choerographer and the owners did not like the dance and completly changed the routine, matter of fact they changed the routinue four times throughout the season. This made for a very hard season for our team. In the end we all wish they would have saved us the money, time and headache and did the routine themselves.
This thread is not really giving many choreographers justice, because the teams I have seen use choreographers are amazing. Lots of times the coaches don't understand the choreography or know how to make the kids performe it correctly, but end up getting beat by teams who do hire someone. I'm sorry but ERic little, ray lezano, and ray jasper are amazing.
Agree completely. All are amazing choreographers with energetic, original and creative routines. I don't care for robotic looking choreography where all-the-moves-look-stiff. Hopefully we'll see less of that this season.

Agreed, those choreographers mentioned above are great..
My thoughts on this are that most cheer coaches know "cheer" (they may think they know dance), however, dance is a whole other world and the dance choreographers have a whole different background with SO MUCH talent. I have enjoyed seeing what these dance choreogrpahers have been bringing to the mat lately. It's finally great to see the cheer owners and coaches step back and let someone else come in and bring a new fresh dance look to their routines. I appreciate that our gym realized this move is so worth the price, totally worth it!!! Can't wait to see all of our routines at comp,

Good luck to everyone this season!!
the team i was on last season hired one of those coaches to do our routine last season and it was kind of a waste. My coach ended up changing the whole dance from what it was. I am not saying that hiring choreographers isnt beneficial but sometimes i think they dont exactly make up a routine that is 1st place worthy.
I hope this doesn't sound rude, but all those choreographers mentioned are amazing and give GREAT material , if not amazing. Most of the teams they work with are first place or very competitive.
