This year my girls are just doing smoky grey with some shimmer. Nothing amazing. They will prolly just use their own make up. Unless we do the ugly make like last year.
The best idea is to talk to a make up artist and see if they have any new and fun ideas. I know that what we do. Its amazing how many tips and information they can give it. Plus, you might find sometime different then the smokey eyes, stickers, and glitter. It can get a little much

See, this is what I like...simple and clean! Not to mention who actually has the time or wants to spend the time applying all the crazy costume makeup before a CHEER comp. Dance is a different story...

Do judges really care about that stuff??
Actually it's NOT on the scoresheet, but it does help their overall impression, facial and appeal to the audience. To me simple/clean is another word for laziness. YOu guys keep saying who has time to do this and that , you should put more time into how you look for competition. I see half the parents/kids walking around , eating, cell phones, Ipods, going shopping among other things. Yes there are exceptions, but more people who are just hanging around, and worse off talking about other teams who do take the time to do their hair and make up. Besides it only takes 5-10 minutes MAX to put on cheer make up if you know how do it.

What exactly do you mean when you say "you should put more time into how you look for compeition"?
Meaning that you should make sure everyone's hair is the same, make up is the same, clean shoes, uniformed groomed, and hair off your face. It should be very regimented. Many cheerleading teams, especially all stars have gotten lazy with that and just say "its all about skills" when people are always attracted to the teams who seem very put together. If you have team A who is talented and looks sloppy or team B who is talented and groomed, then team B always draws more attention.

I agree and DIRTY CHEER SHOES DRIVE ME NUTS especially all star teams when you know they are not outside at football games etc... gyms should take pride in the entire look besides they are putting on a performance. uniforms clean,SHOES CLEAN and the same,hair the same and neat,make up on the same (if wearing it) bows in the same position, the same color briefs. and if you have girls cross competing and your gym allows that make an executive decision have them purchase the another uniform or have yur gym wear the same uniform for all teams. uniform means just that every one is in uniform
and can I say one more time dirty filthy worn out cheer shoes for all stars is so wrong
While I love to look at the crazy cheer makeup at the comps...I just cant bring myself to use it for my team. Dont get me wrong they are very put together and anything but lazy at every event and wear some makeup but it's not the "costume" type. I just feel like it does take some extra time and I want to spend the time doing other things with my teams before they go on stage. Like you said, 5-10 minutes....if you have 25+ girls...that could take a long time. Also, I wouldnt want my girls to do it themselves..who knows how it would turn out.
At our gym the girls do wear makeup. The coaches tell the girls to have all hair and makeup done before getting to the competition. So that way it's not up to the coaches to do the makeup it's up the cheerleader or their parents. Even if you have an early competition that day wake up maybe 15 minutes earlier to get it done. Not that hard at all.
Our gym does the same thing unfortunatly folks come with their makeup done a variety of ways... HEAVY eyeliner, heavy blush, barely any makeup. The same with hair, girls will even have their hair on the wrong side.

After one of our Saturday practices maybe one or two weeks before the first competition the girls are asked to stay a little longer so they can be shown how to apply the makeup correctly. That does help big time.
I do the same, although I coach high school. I give each cheerleader a list of make-up they must have and then we have a make-up applying session. We also go over hair at that meeting too.
I don't mind the glitter as long as it's not real heavy. It should be used as an accent. Don't like it when it looks like they were dipped in head first.
