Age for girls to start wearing makeup

At my daughter's school, makeup has become a huge issue. She goes to elementary school. I just wanted to get your opinion!

I don't have girls but I think around 14 is okay. First of all that sounds like your talking about a face full of makeup. When I was 12 I started wearing eyeliner and a little blush and lip gloss, but that was it. It wasn't on a daily basis. It's really not good for your skin. As I am much older I have discoverd and tell girls and women less is more. When you get older like me the makeup can make you look older cause it emphsizes (know I didn't spell that right) the lines and makes you look older. Mind you I'm not middle age yet but close. It also cloggs the pores and causes pimples. For cheer comps. and special occ. I think its great. It's hard case today the kids grow up so fast. And yes I can understand for elementary school it would be an issue.

I think about 6th grade is good. It really depends on the girl and her parents. Of course, when my 17-year-old was in preschool, she would sit on the bathroom counter while I was getting ready for work. She would put on the lightest pale pink eyeshadow and it was all rubbed off by the time she got to school. That ended quickly when she figured sleep was more important than getting up with mom in the morning! She didn't start wearing mascara and lip gloss til 6th grade, along with many of her friends.

I don't really know what to think! They way I see it, makeup is used to make girls look more attractive, and mature. Does that mean you want your sixth grader looking more attractive, which brings around boys, which brings about relationships and that sort. Is 12 too young?

I personally think 12 is too young to wear makeup....maybe just a light shade of lipstick, but that's all.  You don't want your little girl growing up too fast or looking older than she is. I didn't let my daughter wear makeup until age 14.  I think age 14 is a better age.  Usually they're in high school by that time.  Good luck!

Lip gloss is appropriate for elementary school. Jr high, a little mascara is fine, but not much more. I agree, by 14 you're in High School and make-up is acceptable. jmo!

My daughter is 11. I let her experiment on the weekends. Its usually too much and then I let her know. I show her how less looks better. It's hard because she is actually doing most of her dance m/up now, that when she experiments on the weekends, she tends to over do it. But you have to learn somehow.

I dont necessary agree.. Im 12 years old and I wear make-up and so do my friends. Not full on make-up but mascara, lip gloss ,and maybe a little eye-liner. I know you parents are worried for you little girls to grow up but c'mon its make-up... It's not the worst thing that you could do... Wouldn't you rather have your child start wearing make-up like the rest of us then be the girl out of the loop?? In special occasions its okay to have full on make-up... But im just saying your going to let your child grow up some day.. And by this your child is going to pull away or start sneaking. I know this because this is what some of the girls do at my school and wash off there face before they get home.. Do you want your child to be hiding something from you?hmm

My girls started wearing lip gloss in 4/5th grade....then in middle school added eye liner & mascara. At their school, most girls do. As long as it is in taste, I think it's ok...

I am from the old school
I was not allowed to wear make up, have a boyfriend, talk on the phone, NOTHING till i was 16.
Even then it was frowned upon.
I am ok with 14, but my girls, 11 and 8, think i'm a fogey.
Oh well.

Same here! I wasn't even allowed to shave my hairy ol' legs til I was 13! Now that was embarrassing!!!! I could hide my legs with pants, but not in PE class..........I think my mother scarred me for life on that one. I had one friend who had it worse. She wasn't allowed to listen to music, go to dances, wear shorts, talk to boys, look at boys.......in short, Nothing fun..........Wonder what she would've thought about cheerleading today........
OH! I haven't heard the word "Fogey" in years!!!

Oh ya....shaving the legs!!! I didn't start shaving my legs until Jr. High. Man, were my legs nasty! I didn't start wearing makeup until I was 17 either. I guess I can give Kudos to my mom- I was so busy, I didn't even have time for boys, makeup, drama... until I was out of high school. But I am thankful for it. I stayed out of trouble and kept on the right track.
