I was just wondering what everyone thought about the cheer pants at the USA nationals in Anahiem. All Star Elite Cheer, 07 Senior Small Level 4 National Champions.
We really need Uniform Police to weigh in on this one but he/she seems to have disappeared from our forum.
I actually like the pants because it is more modest than those very very very tiny itty bitty skirts. But most people don't have the same conservative viewpoint as me. I do wonder how the bases hold the flyers safely. I've seen some kids practice in long pants and they seem to get in the way for holding the flyers ankles.
How do the kids like them?

They are custom uniforms, fitted for each athlete. The kids love them and they feel more comfortable wearing the pants instead of the small skirts. My daughter is 5 and I would have had a hard time with her wearing those types of skirts.
I have to admit they look comfortable, and alot more modest when it comes to jumping and tumbling. The girls do look cute in them. I'm just not use to them yet. Anyone remember what team it was that wore the shorts? I liked those for the same reason.
I thought the pants made them look like a dance team. They looked cute on them but I would not be a fan if I had to compete in them. Your legs would get sweaty. Ewwww.

they did look like a dance team to me as well. It gave them an edge... but I must say... Tiny skirts still win me over anyday.. even at the youth level. It’s definitely a controversial topic. But you have to remember this is an extreme sport now… like most athletes that perform in some way (swimmers, divers, gymnasts.) they need form fitting outfits/ uniforms. I don’t agree if your using pants to cover up your girls, but if your trying to look edgy then I’m all for it.
I think their routine went with their "pants" theme, but personally I don't like them for cheerleading teams. It looks like a dance team with tumblers. Also you can notice mistakes alot more with flyers when they are wearing long pants, which is odd because their team doesn't have any sleeves on the tops. The one good thing is they stand out. Congrats on their title at USA. Look forward to seeing them in the future.
I have to give this trend some time...my initial thought was that I don't like them but then I didn't like capris when they first came out either and now I live in them...so I could definitely change my mind!
Sorry guys, not my favorite look for a cheerleading team. I also thought they looked more like a dance team uniform. They did stand out, which may be the intent.
I tried to get an opinion here, but at this point Im still borderline... I dont know if I do or dont like them. Cheer411 has a point about the bent legs, but I also see where they could get in the way of backspots much needed grip. I guess, if their going for originality then they got it. I wonder if this will catch on in the future, like the shorts?!
I hope it does not become a trend. They do look more like dance outfits then cheer. So I guess my opinion is that the girls look cute in them but I don't really like them that much. I like the spankies OC uses that look like shorts. They give the girls a little more dignity then the regular spankies.
I sat next to one of their moms at GSSA and asked her about the pants and she said that they come from a small town near Placerville that is a bit more conservative than other places and there is a strong religious base there that were in favor of the pants but they let the girls make the decision and the girls all wanted the pants. I also asked if they practice in pants so the bases and backs can get used to holding the pants and she said they don't. They practice in shorts and don't seem to have an issue competing in pants.
They are hoping that it might spark a trend for more religious/conservative based groups to offer cheerleading as an option for their girls if they can compete in a less revealing outfit. (I hope I got that right and am not misquoting!) I say more power to them if it works for them! They won a national title against some very good competition so it is obviously not affecting their performance or scores!
However, if it allows the kids of conservative parents the opportunity to get involved in cheerleading, that otherwise would not...I say "GOOD FOR THEM".
There are many kids that need to be involved in an athletic activity to keep them active, learn to work with others, teach them discipline..but are not interested in anything remotely related to mainstream sports (i.e. soccer, softball, etc). Giving the option to participate in cheerleading and still maintain their moral integrity with their uniforms gives them this choice.
